About the Author
Dan Hennessey Since being diagnosed more than 6 years ago Dan has seen his life go from ordinary to extraordinary. During his battle and victory against Prostate Cancer Dan has dedicated his time to making a difference in the lives of those going through this disease in addition to doing his part to raise awareness one reader at a time. Humour has always been an important part of Dan’s life and he has blended this in his story which has made the issue of Prostate Cancer a little easier to hear about. He was once asked if he wished he had never been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and the easy answer would have been yes, but in Dan’s case it has opened up a new avenue of helping those around him. Whether it is dealing with the diagnosis or dealing with the life changing components that go along with it. Those that have heard Dan speak have said that they have never laughed so hard at such a serious issue in their lives but have learned so much. Others have said that when Dan talks about his journey it is much like sitting down in a comfortable chair and listening to a voyage of tragedy and victory all at the same time, but at the end the message is clear, there is hope. Dan was invited in June 2010 to participate in a web site being developed by Abbott Labs ( www.ihaveprostatecancer.ca). This web site serves to educate, support and provide education to those beginning their journey. In addition Dan’s image has also been added to a photographic exhibition of Prostate Cancer survivors developed by Photo Sensitive and features 100 images and will tour the country in 2011 and 2012 (www.photosensitive.com/newsletter/TIEd_Together_story.php ). Dan has been interviewed on radio, television and newspapers across Canada in support of his story and is sought after as a speaker and master of ceremonies for many organizations. The importance of a strong family circle is one of the most important tools that one can use to battle this disease when it strikes and Dan is surrounded by one of the most loving, caring, and supportive family core that one could ever wish for. When Dan is not stepping up on his soap box and delivering his riveting message to all of those that will listen, Dan calls the South Shore of Nova Scotia home where his wife Marianne and their daughters Emma and Grace enjoy all that this wonderful area of the country has to offer. Dan also has another daughter Alicia who resides in Dartmouth. |
